Placement Policies at Worcester State University 

All Accuplacer placement scores expire 19 months from the test date.

 

A student whose scores have expired must retest.

 

Each Accuplacer test may be re-tested once in a four month timeframe.

 

The cost to re-test is $20.

 

Worcester State Univeristy does not accept Accuplacer scores from other schools.  All testing must be completed at WSU.

 

 

English Department Course and Placement Policy

 

Worcester State University uses Accuplacer's WritePlacer test to determine each student's placement for Writing and Accupalcer's Readign Comprehension test to determine each student's placement for Reading.  Students who achieve a Verbal score of 500 or higher are exempt from taking the Reading Comprehension Test.  The WritePlacer test will determine a student’s placement into English Composition courses. 

 

In order to take an English Composition course at Worcester State University, students must complete the placement test and submit SAT scores prior to registration.  Students will be placed into English Composition courses according to their English placement scores. Scores will be automatically converted to an English code which will be recorded in the University database (along with the original scores). The English code allows the University to enforce the initial prerequisite.

 

All students who score a 59 or lower on the Reading Comprehension placement test will be coded ED 099 and placed into a Developmental Reading Comprehension course. Students who score a 0-3 on the WritePlacer tset will be coded EN 099 and placed into a Developmental Writing course.  After successful completion of Developmental Writing, students will be placed into Composition I. 


Mathematics Department Course and Placement Policy

 

All new students entering Worcester State University will take the Accuplacer Arithmetic test followed by the Accuplacer Elementary Algebra test. Those who score an 82 or higher on the Elementary Algebra test will progress to an Algebra II /Pre-Calculus test called the College Level Math test.
 

In order to take a Math course at Worcester State University, students must complete the placement test prior to registration. Students will be placed into Math courses according to their Math placement scores. Scores will be automatically converted to a Math code which will be recorded in the College database (along with the original scores). The Math code allows the University to enforce the initial prerequisite.
 

All students who score low on both the Arithmetic exam and the Elementary Algebra test will be coded 1 and placed into a Developmental Math-Arithmetic course. After successful completion of Developmental Math-Arithmetic, students will move to Developmental Math-Elementary Algebra.  After successful completion of Developmental Math-Elementary Algebra, stuents will be able to take a college-level Math course.
