Achievements on and off the field

Worcester State University has a strong athletics tradition that values and supports our students’ academic responsibilities. Here, athletics are about more than just playing sports; they are about learning teamwork, building confidence, and understanding competitive strategy. Our student-athletes strive to be high-achievers—on the field, in the classroom, and in the community at-large. Worcester State Lancers use the skills and lessons from the field to make an impact on the world.

Worcester State has 9 men’s and 10 women’s NCAA Division III varsity teams and competes in the MASCAC, Little East, and ECAC conferences. Our teams regularly qualify for league tournaments and NCAA Division III post-season play, with many standout student-athletes achieving All-New England, All-American, and other conference honors.  Our intramural teams compete in 10 sports, ranging from co-ed volleyball to ultimate Frisbee.

  • Athletics Advising
Our Athletics Department works closely with our academic support services, including the Academic Support Center, to provide academic advising support, study halls, academic progress monitoring, time-management advising, academic counseling, and tutoring referrals to our student-athletes. Our Athlete Mentor Program connects first-year athletes with seasoned athletes to give them additional one-on-one assistance in each of these areas. We’re consistently well-represented on the MASCAC’s All-Academic Team, and our student-athletes regularly qualify as Co-SIDA Academic All-Americans and Howard C. Smith MASCAC Scholar-Athletes.
