Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society
WSU Chi Iota Chapter of Beta-Beta-Beta
National Biological Honor Society
The three major objectives the Biology Department’s local chapter of the Society are: first, to promote scholarship in the biological sciences; second, to promote the dissemination of biological knowledge; and third, to encourage research in the biological sciences.
There are two membership levels available to eligible Biology and Biotechnology students at WSU: Associate Membership and Full Membership. The requirements for Associate membership are an interest in biology and biological research. Generally, freshmen or early sophomore Biology Majors who have shown a GPA of 3.0 or greater in their science (Biology) courses are invited to join as Associate members. These are students who show promise of continuing in the field and who probably would then be “promoted” to full membership when they become eligible in terms of course completion. Full membership requires a GPA of 3.0 or greater in their science courses and 2nd semester sophomore standing in their major (either Biology or Biotechnology). For Biology students, this means completion of BI-140 & BI 141 (or BI-105 & BI-106) and at least two core courses (200-Level). For Biotechnology Majors, it would mean completion of those Biology/Biotechnology courses that would put them into the 2nd semester of their sophomore year. Transfer students are evaluated on an individual basis and should show sufficient course work in biology at WSU to demonstrate that they fulfill the GPA requirements.
Meetings are held in ST-306 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on the first and third Monday of every month. Non-members are encouraged to attend these meetings and to be involved in Tri-Beta’s activities.
