Facilities
The chemistry department is housed in the Ghosh Science and Technology building, completed in 2004 to house a variety of departments including biology, computer science, occupational therapy and nursing.
The department is equipped with a variety of analytical instruments to measure the simple and the complex. Available instruments include centrifuges, a Cary UV-VIS spectrophotometer, Nicolet IR spectrophotometers, HPLC, Anasazi Eft-60 NMR spectrometer, gas chromatography, Varian GC-MS spectrophotometer, magnetic susceptibility balance, Perkin Elmer atomic absorption spectrophotometer, analytical and preparative balances, etc. We recently acquired a state of the art instruments such as a NovaScan atomic force microscope, Thermoanalysis Q2000 differential scanning calorimeter as well as a microwave for green synthesis.
The department also houses a computer room with multiple workstations for both student use and occasional classroom demonstrations. In addition, the department has a student lounge where students can study, gather, tutor one another or just relax between classes.
