Yale UniversityPh.D, University of MassachusettsDr. Christie Nigro has been performing as a cellist in the central Massachusetts area for about 12 years, as a soloist, chamber music performer and orchestral musician. She has degrees in cello performance from Syracuse and Yale Universities, and has played with such organizations as the Boston Ballet, the Syracuse Symphony, the New Haven Orchestra, the Worcester Orchestra and the Hawthorn Tree Chamber Players. Dr. Nigro also has a Ph.D. in music from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where her doctoral work focused on the chamber music of American composer, George Whitefield Chadwick.Dr. Nigro is Professor of Music at Worcester State College, where she conducts the college Chorus and Chorale, teaches music literature and history classes and cello. Dr. Nigro has earned a reputation as an outstanding choral conductor, having taken the WSC Chorale on six international tours to Europe and South America. Past tours have included Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain, Scotland, Argentina, Ireland, England and Italy, where her choir was the featured guest of Pope John Paul II in Rome. In the spring of 2005, the Chorale will be touring Poland and the Czech Republic. Dr. Nigro has also conducted numerous choral works with the Chorus and full orchestra, such as the Mozart Requiem, the Vivaldi Gloria, Bach's Magnificat in D Major and the Rutter Requiem. In spring of 2004, she conducted Orff's Carmina Burana with the combined choirs of the Consortium and professional orchestra at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.
