Check List for Family & Friends
Make arrangements for lodging.
Because hotel and motel space in the Worcester area is at a premium this time of year, we urge you to make your reservations as soon as possible. Click here for a list of local accomodations.
Commencement will take place at the DCU Center (Major Taylor Blvd.).
More details about the ceremony being held in this room will be posted as Commencement Day gets closer.
Any guest with a VIP pass should present it to the ushers upon arrrival in order to be directed to your seats. Please remember to bring your VIP pass for admitance to the VIP seating area.
Decide who will attend Commencement.
There typically has been no limit to the number of guests each graduate may invite to Commencement. No admission tickets are required. However, in deciding whom you will invite to Commencement, we urge you to consider the special needs of the elderly and the physically impaired. You must take into consideration that a large crowd will be gathering for the ceremony.
Traditionally, many graduates have used their Commencement invitations as announcements to send to family and friends who cannot attend the ceremony. Students are responsible for picking up their invitations at the Student Center Information Desk at the end of April.
Notify the Office of Disability Services in advance if a member of your party needs to order priority-seating tickets from the Disability Services Office (DSO).
The DSO is coordinating priority seating for your guests who have a disability, such as mobility, hearing or vision impairments. We will distribute up to five DSO priority-seating tickets to each graduate so that your family/friends may sit together. In order to receive these tickets, you must contact Fran Manocchio, director of the DSO, at email@example.com or 508-929-8238. Fran will need your name, the names of your guests, the nature of disability (to ensure proper seating), and a phone number where you can be reached.
The tickets will be available in early May 2014. You may go to the Disability Services Office in the Helen G. Shaughnessy Administration Building, Room 131 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), or if you prefer, she can mail the tickets to you. Please indicate your preference when you contact Fran. Instructions detailing any pertinent logistics will be included with your tickets.
Plan to arrive at the Commencement site at least one hour before the procession begins.
The procession is expected to begin promptly at 11:30 a.m.
Balloons are not allowed in the DCU Center.
Please do not bring balloons for your graduate. Due to safety reasons, the DCU Center will not allow balloons inside the center.
Flower Sale Fundraiser
The Class of 2015 will be holding a Flower Sale Fundraiser in the DCU Center Exhibition Hall on Commencement Day. The flower sale will begin at 9 a.m. in the lobby. Prices: $20 per half-dozen; $30 per dozen (less expensive than all those outside vendors) CASH ONLY. Proceeds will support the Class of 2015.
GradImages will be on hand Commencement Day to take individual photographs as each graduate crosses the stage and is congratulated by President Maloney. Information about ordering photographs will be sent directly to you.
To expedite the ceremony, it is important that the platform area be kept clear.
Please plan to take "family" photographs after the ceremony and do not block the stage area. There will be special locations in the hallway where these kinds of photographs can be taken after the ceremony ends.
To avoid confusion, decide on a predetermined site where you will meet your graduate after the Commencement ceremony.
