Health Insurance Information
Important Insurance Information For All Graduates
As you are aware, upon graduation you will lose your student health insurance. Please be aware that individuals residing in Massachusetts age 18 and older must have health insurance or may face a financial penalty when filing state income taxes. According to the Massachusetts health care reform law, you cannot have more than a 63 day lapse in coverage in a calendar year.
As part of the healthcare reform law, the Commonwealth Connector Authority (the Connector) was created to connect individuals to high quality, private health insurance. The Connector offers plans designed for Young Adults and helps individuals choose, purchase, and enroll in a health plan that works for them. Depending on where you reside, you may pick a plan from the following options:
· Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
· Fallon Community Health Plan
· Harvard Pilgrim Health Care
· Health New England
· Neighborhood Health Plan
· Tufts Health Plan
These plans carry the Connector’s Seal of Approval. So don’t worry if you don’t have a job lined up that offers you health insurance. Now you can get your own health insurance coverage so you never have to worry about being without it.
For further information regarding these plans please contact a representative at 1-877-MA-ENROLL, or visit the Connector’s website at www.mahealthconnector.org.
