Scholarly Activity Joan E. Butterworth is a clinical supervisor at the Worcester State College Speech – Language – Hearing Clinic. She received her BS from Northeastern University and her M.S. from Purdue University. Her primary areas of interest include fluency disorders in children and adults as well as child language disorders with emphasis on family centered treatment and functional treatment outcomes. Courses she has taught at WSC have included Normal Development of Speech and Language, Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism, and Stuttering. Joan is certified by and a member of the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association including Special Interest Division 4 - Fluency and Fluency Disorders and is a member of the Massachusetts Speech-Language- Hearing Association. She is licensed to practice in the state of Massachusetts, and is a board recognized specialist in the area of Fluency Disorders. Prior to coming to WSC, Joan worked in various clinical settings which have included private practice, school, and hospital based programs.
