4th Annual Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy

The annual Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy is focused on higher education teaching excellence and the scholarship of teaching and learning. The conference showcases the best pedagogical practice and research in higher education today. Sessions address disciplinary and interdisciplinary instructional strategies, outcomes, and research.

The conference continues to grow and attract a widening community of US-based and international educators and scholars from an increasing number of institutions. The 2011 conference welcomed 605 attendees from 122 institutions and 12 countries including South Africa, Brazil, Israel, Portugal, and Turkey. Attendees report that the diverse and high-quality conference program, organization, and facility combine to promote rich dialogue and exchange that informs and energizes their teaching.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Todd Zakrajsek, Executive Director for Faculty Excellence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will address "Teaching for Learning: An Evidence-Based Examination of Key Pedagogical Concepts". His talk will highlight important developments in pedagogical research and suggest approaches for staying current with college teaching and learning literature.

There is no registration fee; however, both presenters and attendees must register. Registration is available online at: http://www.cider.vt.edu/conference/

The conference is free because we believe that budgetary reductions of travel money and professional development funds should not be a barrier to increased instructional effectiveness and student learning.

SESSION TYPES
* Research sessions inform participants of the design, implementation, and results of empirical research focused on teaching and learning in higher education.
* Practice sessions are focused on sharing, modeling and discussing higher education teaching and learning, while allowing for interaction among session participants.
* Poster sessions provide an opportunity to present and discuss scholarly research and/or practice in an informal scholarly environment.


5th Annual SoTL Commons Conference

 Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA      March 7-9, 2012

 The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (CTLS) will host the 5th annual “The SoTL Commons” conference on the campus of Georgia Southern University. The conference brings together people engaging in SoTL and anyone wanting to improve student learning outcomes in higher education today. The conference epitomizes that college teaching is intellectual work that is enhanced both by disciplinary scholarship and the scholarship on teaching the disciplines (SoTL). The SoTL Commons Conference is a catalyst for learning, conversations and collaborations about SoTL as a key, evidence-based way to improve student learning.
