Join us for Spring Semester Elder Registration: Thursday,  January 14, 2010
 

Worcester State College welcomes elders (60 and over) to register for free courses (offered on a space available basis).  Elders must register in person and provide one of the following:  Driver’s license. senior ID card, birth certificate.  If circumstances prohibit your presence on January 14th, you may register in person at the Registrar’s Office during the first week of class.  Remember classes are on a “space available basis."  Please call 508-929-8127 for information.
 

Elders are also welcome to matriculate (apply for admission into a degree program) and choose a major concentration of study. To pursue this, visit the Admissions office (2nd floor Administration Building), call 508-929-8040, or visit the website: www.worcester.edu/Admissions for more information. You may apply for an undergraduate degree, second undergraduate degree or graduate degree. In order to meet degree requirement, matriculated elders are permitted to register for classes at the same time as traditional students.

Ending Hunger NOW!!

Empty Bowl Event to benefit hunger relief agencies in Worcester
Exhibit Area, Student Center,  11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Panel: Reaching  the Goal to End Childhood Hunger by 2015
November 10th 2-4:30 p.m. Blue Lounge

Help us End Hunger NOW !   "Empty Bowl" event to benefit hunger relief.  Buy a bowl, feed the community!  Raffle, games, speaker, (Congressman McGovern), food, fun and more! Please Join us to help fight hunger!

 

Panel  2:00 -3:30

Join the experts as they discuss strategies for Ending Childhood Hunger by the year 2015. Speakers include;

Jean McMurray, Worcester County Food Bank.  Jean will give an overview of hunger in the Worcester area, will mention “Kid’s Café” and will end on an advocacy note.

Angela Beeler, pediatrician  at UMASS will focus on the ways hunger and food insecurity impact children’s health and well being and will discuss the ways the medical community is trying to alleviate child hunger.

Donna Lombardi, WPS School Nutrition, will discuss the initiatives underway to improve the nutrition of school breakfast and lunch and progress on universal breakfast.

Sharon Driscoll, Project Bread, will focus on Project Bread’s Child Hunger initiatives and ways in which these dovetail with the President’s Ending Child Hunger by the year 2015.

Kwame Appiah from WIC will discuss the reauthorization of WIC and the many changes currently underway in that program.

Amy Navin, Brigham Hill Farm, will discuss the involvement of schoolchildren in   volunteering at the farm, and also learning more about hunger and nutrition.

Liz  Sheehan, Hunger Free and Healthy & Worcester Food Policy Council, will view child hunger from a community perspective and discuss hopeful strategies toward ending child hunger on a neighborhood level
