In November 2008, Worcester State College qualified to receive the 2008 Educational Benchmarking Commitment to Excellence Award - Silver Institution, in recognition of annual participation in the EBI First-Year Initiative Assessment in five of the last six years.

The mission of Educational Benchmarking (EBI) is to provide assessment services that improve higher education professionals' ability to enhance the quality of the educational experience for college and university students around the world. Continuous improvement is driven by the appropriate use of high quality assessment information on the shortest possible assessment cycle. EBI will recognize institutions  and programs who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and commitment to continuous improvement through annual participation in EBI Benchmarking Assessments.
