General Indexes

  • Academic One File - (InfoTrac) Gale database - WSU. Click on the Advanced Search tab (above the search box). Enter the author name or title of the book/ movie | scroll down to Document Type and scroll to select Book Review - (or way down to select Movie Review).
  • Academic Search Complete - (EBSCO) - WSU. Click on the Advanced Search link. Enter the author name or title of the book/ movie | scroll down to Document Type and select Book Review - (or down to select Entertainment Review).
  • Book Index With Reviews - (EBSCO) - WSU. Scroll down - it's at the bottom of the listing; also reviews of films, software, music and DVD titles.
  • New York Review of Books - selected reviews
  • New York Times on the Web Books - Books and authors from reviews, news, and interviews in the New York Times back to 1981. 
  • ProQuest Newspapers - Searches 46 national U.S. newspapers. Go to the Advanced Search tab | Enter the book's author or title in the search box | In the box for multiple databases, use the drop down menu to select News - National Newspapers. At the left, bottom of the screen, click on More Search Options | Use the drop down menu for Document Type, scroll to Review and select the type of review you need (book, play, movie, etc.)
  • Quarterly Black Review -  focusing on books of interest to African-Americans
  • Washington Post Book World - Washington Post Sunday book review section

Specialized Indexes

  • Art Full Text - (WSU) An index to articles in periodicals covering art. Combine your Words search for the title with the phrase "book review". Search also for the book author as Author.
  • Business Source Premier - WSU
  • H-Net Reviews - very current reviews from the Humanities and Social Sciences Online Network
  • Lexis-Nexis - Click on the News tab at the top of the screen | Enter your information in the search boxes | then go to the Sources box below, and from the drop-down menu select Book, Movie, Music, Play and Video Reviews.
  • Literary Criticism - from the Internet Public Library. Contains critical and biographical websites about authors and their works that can be browsed by author, by title, or by nationality and literary period
  • Literature Resource Center - (Gale) - WSU Biographies, bibliographies, and critical analysis of authors from every age and literary discipline. An additional component is the Twayne's Authors Series featuring content of nearly 600 books of literary criticism.
  • Sociological Abstracts - WSU
