* Hurricane Irene Information
Dear Members of the WSU Community:
Worcester State University is monitoring the track of Hurricane Irene, which is expected to arrive in New England this weekend. The University will communicate necessary information to the campus community via a variety of methods, including text, email, and online postings. Keeping in mind that this event has regional impact, there is no guarantee that specific communication methods, such as telephone, will be available at a given time. In addition to email and text messages, University information associated with this event will be posted on http://www.worcester.edu and http://community.worcester.edu. Information will be mirrored on these two geographically distributed web servers, increasing the likelihood that updates will be available, assuming that users have access to power and internet connections.
Our facilities department has inspected all buildings and facilities on campus and stand ready with our police to take any action as needed.
As a precaution, I have authorized students who are staying on campus this weekend to vacate the residence halls no later than Saturday evening and to return when the campus reopens.
Please take this warning seriously and remain safe. If the campus is not open on Monday, we will attempt to notify everyone via the methods described above. However, if we are open, I encourage everyone to use common sense in determining whether or not it is safe to travel to campus on Monday.
Sincerely,
Barry M. Maloney
President
