Catherine Wilcox-Titus (Visual & Performing Arts) read her paper,
"Adel Abdessemed: Human Gestures, Political Realities," at the Southeastern College Art Conference on Thursday October 22 in Mobile, Alabama. As part of the panel on Social Encounters in Art, her paper analyzed how the contemporary French-Algerian artist, Adel Abdessemed, represented violence and conflict. Her paper suggests that Abdessemed has moved away from polemics toward an understanding of the ways in which universal human weaknesses and especially constructs of gender are exploited in the rhetoric of extremists whether secular or religious.

The Worcester State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athletes experience. SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect the student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses and here at Worcester State College.
Each year SAAC tries to involve its members in a local community service project. This year they are donating to WHY ME &
Sherry's House. More than 465 families have been served by WHY ME.
SAAC would like to make a generous donation to
Sherry's House and is soliciting your help to make that a reality. Below is a link to a pdf wish list of items. SAAC will have a representative and a collection box at the gate for the November 7th football game vs. Westfield State College to collect any donations. There is also an opportunity to make a financial donation at the game which will go towards the purchase of a gift card. In addition, the Worcester State Athletic Department will be donating 50% of all the gate receipts towards the gift card purchase. If you are unable to attend the game but would like to make a donation please call John Meany at ext. 8746 and he will arrange for someone to pick up your donation. Any little bit counts and with your support a big difference can be made. Your help is greatly appreciated.

"Bus Stop" is less than two weeks away. Don't miss an opportunity to see the first performance in the newly renovated Fuller Theater. Tickets are on sale at the Fuller Theater Box Office, at the Student Center Info Desk or at the door. Tickets are $7 for students; $14 for general admission.
Faculty, please let your advisees know about a special opportunity for them to fill Fine Arts Requirements by performing Paul Winter's Missa Gaia (Earth Mass) this coming spring semester. For those who sing, this will be a very special, one-time chance. The work is dedicated to our beautiful planet, and is very accessible. It is a combination of jazz, gospel, classical and new age music, and even has pre-recorded whale sounds and wolf calls in its score. If you have interested students, please have them pre-register for either MU 200 IM: Missa Gaia, or MU 215 Chorus and Music Theory. The class meets on MW 12:30-1:45 in Sullivan Auditorium. If anyone needs more information, please contact Christie Nigro at cnigro@worcester.edu.
