NOTEWORTHY:

On February 12, Peter Bradley (Biology) attended the First Nanosymposium sponsored by the Colleges of Worcester Consortium and Mass. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. During the symposium Peter Bradley and Orpha James '08 (a graduate of our M.S. Biotechnology program) presented a research poster: "Some thermoplastics containing nanomaterials can be safe for the growth of cultured green monkey (VERO) cells."



Stephanie Chalupka (Nursing) presented "Toxic-Free Newborns: Strategies For Reducing Exposures And Related Health Risks" at the Annual Convention of the Association of Women's Health & Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Professor Chalupka's presentation addressed the environmental toxicants that have the potential to adversely impact reproductive health and reproductive outcomes. Professor Chalupka has also developed an online continuing education course with Andrew Chalupka (Harvard Medical School) for the Association of Women's Health & Neonatal Nurses based on The Impact of Environmental and Occupational Exposures on Reproductive Health by Chalupka, S. & Chalupka, A.N. (2010) which appeared in the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, & Neonatal Nursing, 39, 84-102.



Amaryllis Siniossoglou (Visual & Performing Arts) had a one person show at Gallery7 in Athens, Greece from January 11-29, 2011. The exhibited works included large scale figure paintings and landscapes. The show was very well received with positive reviews in the press and was presented by Public Radio. This is Professor Siniossoglou's fifth one person show following her 2007 show in New York.



American Classic Theatre's concert reading of THE BUTTON SHOW, sponsored by the Department of Visual and Performing Arts on Tuesday Feb. 8 was performed for an audience of 25 in Fuller Theater. THE BUTTON SHOW, was written and composed by ACT Artistic Director and Worcester native, James Nichols. The cast featured local performers together with several WSU students and faculty.

Students to Network with Alumni and Administrators at Career Event

On Tuesday, February 15, over 30 students and young alumni are expected to attend a speed networking event where they will speak one-on-one with alumni professionals and WSU administrators on career topics ranging from resume writing to job searching. The N.A.S.C.A.R. (Network Assess Strategize Collaborate Align Research) Race Event, sponsored by the offices of Alumni Affairs and Career Services is a great hands-on opportunity for students to branch out beyond typical career fairs and gain the necessary skills that they will need to move one step closer towards their career.

Women's Track Team
Our women's track team had an outstanding weekend after they captured their second straight MASCAC Indoor Championship. Two individuals broke school records (Shot put -3,000 meter run) and two relay teams (4x200 and 4x400) eclipsed school marks while several qualified for the Division III New England Championships this weekend at MIT. Men's Track Team
The men's team placed third at the MASCAC Championships, but they still had a lot of noteworthy performances including a student-athlete who broke the school record in the 600 meters. Click here to read more.

Seniors Kathleen Foley, Alexis George and Becca Giguere who were honored for their four-year contributions to Worcester State on "Senior Day" before their game against Bridgewater State on Saturday. To read more about each player's contributions over their career, click here.
