  • Career Services for Students and Alumni

    At Career Services, we understand that as a student you may change majors and career goals several times during your university experience. Career exploration during your college years is healthy and strategic, allowing you the opportunity to fine-tune what you really want to do in the world.

    Upon graduation from Worcester State University, you are welcome to access services Career Services offers at no cost for 1 semester following your graduation. After that period, you may make appointments during WSU’s summer and winter breaks, when current students are away from campus. (Check WSU’s Academic Calendar for dates.)

    Career Services offerings available to students and alumni include:

  • Career Counseling

    You’re encouraged to make an appointment with a career counselor for resume and cover letter critiques, assistance in preparing a portfolio, guidance on graduate school personal statements, mock interview practice, and more. We also offer:

    • Group career guidance and planning
    • Career assessments, including:
      • Myers Briggs Type Indicator
      • Holland Self-Directed Search
       
    • Guidance on choosing a major and which path(s) to take
    • Job-search guidance, including help with resumes and cover letters
    • Internship and job search consultations
    • Discussion on career changes

    Planning for Graduate School

    Whether you are pursuing a career that requires an advanced degree, feel you need to know more about your chosen field of study, or want to increase your earning power and competitiveness in the job market, deciding to go to graduate school is a big decision. Give yourself plenty of time to make this decision. It may take up to 2 years to go through the selection, application, standardized testing, and acceptance processes.

    Our graduate school planning services include helping you:

    • Determine if graduate school is right for you immediately after graduation
    • Find graduate school programs that fit your needs and budget
    • Prepare your applications

    Before making an appointment with a career counselor, you must set up an account in LancerLink, our online internship and job database. Alumni, may make an appointment during breaks when school is not in session. (Check WSU’s Academic Calendar for dates.)

    LancerLink - Professional Opportunities

    LancerLink is our free online internship and job database dedicated to help students and alumni make professional connections with employers and be aware of on-campus career development recruiting programs and fairs.

    The LancerLink system allows you to create and manage your own online professional profile. The information you input will be available to prospective employers who post positions in LancerLink and search for qualified candidates. Please upload your resume/CV (Microsoft Word, PDF, etc.) to support your internship/job searching efforts.

    Alumni Mentor Network

    If you are a Worcester State student, you can get career advice from alumni through the Worcester State Alumni Advisor Network, a powerful online platform that facilitates one-to-one career consultations. Alumni can share their expertise with students in 3 ways: career conversations, resume critiques, and mock interviews.

    "Big Interview" Practice Tool

    We are pleased to offer Big Interview, a free training system that features an innovative way to help you prepare more effectively for a job interview. Big Interview is an online system that combines training and webcam-recorded practice to help improve your interview technique and build your confidence. Practice and share your recorded interview answers for others’ feedback. You have at your disposal a variety of tools, including:

    • Challenging, virtual mock interviews for all experience levels and dozens of industries
    • A database of thousands of interview questions with tips on how to answer them
    • The ability to rate and share your interview answers for feedback
    • A comprehensive video training curriculum covering all aspects of landing a job
    • A step-by-step interview Answer Builder for crafting answers to behavioral questions

    How to Register

    Step 1: Visit biginterview.com and click "Register Now."

    Step 2: Complete registration process—enter your @worcester.edu in the “Organization Confirmation Email” and enter the rest of the information, then click “Create My Account.”

    Step 3: You'll then receive a confirmation email at your WSU email address. Click "Verify" in the email, and you'll be able to start using Big Interview.
