Student Employment Opportunities
The Student Center has many opportunities for students to have a convenient part time job on campus while attending Worcester State University. Several areas within the building offer jobs to students, residents and commuters, and it is a great way to earn some money before, between or after classes. The following are descriptions of each work area:
Student Center Building Managers
The building managers are responsible for opening and closing the building when professional staff is not on duty. They oversee set ups of all meeting spaces, do rounds of the building, and assist anyone using the space with any questions or requests they may have. The Student Center is open Monday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Holiday hours may vary.
As part of the Conference and Event Services Office, the conference staff serves all conferencing needs. The staff will set up and break down events, work with audio-visual equipment and provide excellent customer service for events happening in the Student Center and around campus. An event can range from a weekly meeting of 10 people or a yearly event of 500. Schedules are set for the semester however additional hours may be required including nights and weekends.
Information Desk Staff
The Information Desk staff are often the first contact for guests entering the Student Center. The staff may direct guests to locations on campus, give out basic information on events and meetings, and sell event tickets, caps and gowns and yearbooks. The staff also oversees key sign outs for student organization offices as well as the Info Alley display boards. Familiarity with the campus and events and former customer service and/or retail experience is encouraged. The Information Desk is open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Living Room Staff
The Living Room staff is responsible for all aspects of management and cleanliness of the Student Center Living Room. The Living Room is a lounge and game room open to all students. The staff provides change to anyone who needs it for the games and oversees all equipment for ping pong, pool and board games. Some light cleaning is also involved in this position. The Living Room is open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m, Friday, 9 a.m.- 6:30 p.m, Saturday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Print Center Staff
The Print Center serves the needs of the faculty, staff, students, and student organizations with copying and banner services. Transparencies, limited color copies and laminations are also available. The staff manages the copy machines as well as creates and colors banners from transparencies when ordered. Prior experience with cash transactions is encouraged. The Print Center is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Over 60 students work in the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Development and the Conference and Events Services Office. While a few jobs may be available early in the Fall semester, most hiring is done by the CESO Office at the end of the Fall semester and by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Development in the spring for the following fall.
