Fulbright Opportunities

Fulbright Scholar Program
The following programs offer U.S. faculty, administrators and professionals asistance to provide lectures, conduct research in a variety of academic and professional fields, or to participate in seminars.

Core Fulbright Scholar Program
The Core Fulbright Scholar Program sends approximately 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.

New Century Scholars Program
Each year the NCS Scholar Program brings together approximately thirty outstanding research scholars and professionals form the U.S. and abroad. Under teh guidance of an appointed Distinguished Scholar Leader, NCS Scholars engage in collaborative, multidisciplinary examinations of topics of universal concern and together seek solutions to critical issues affecting all humankind.

Fulbright Specialist Program
The Fulbright Specialist Program is designed to provide short-term academic opportunities (two to six weeks) for U.S. faculty and professionals. Shorter term programs provide specialists greater flexibility to pursue special projects that work best with their current academic or professional commitments.

Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program
Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Cadidates should be senior scholars and have a significant publication and teaching record.

Fulbright German Studies Seminars
Participants of German Fulbright Study Seminars will examine the political, social and economic institutions of Germany. Each specific semester has a specific thematic focus. The program will begin in Berlin and include visits to other cities in eatern and western Germany.

Occasional Lecturer Fund
Through this travel fund you may inviste Visiting Fulbright Scholars already in the U.S. to your campus.
 

 

Faculty Abroad
WSU faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in international education through teaching, research, and developing short-term programs abroad. The IPO is here to work collaboratively to promote your efforts.

Teach Abroad
WSU has an established affiliation with the Middelburg Center for Transatlantic Studies in the Netherlands which provides faculty members with the opportunity to teach abroad for a summer or semester. Please note that as of Fall 2010 the block system will end and semester-long courses will be offered!  Learn more about teaching abroad in the Netherlands at the Middelburg Center for Transatlantic Studies.

Short-Term Faculty-Led Programs
These courses/programs offer faculty the chance to enhance and expand students' perspectives both in the classroom and outside of it in new and exciting ways.  We encourage faculty to consider leading a program abroad.  If you are interested in leading a program abroad, we suggest you talk with your department chair to discuss your plans and then contact Katey Palumbo at extension 8835 as soon as possible to discuss your proposed program. If you are interested in developing a program but are not sure where to begin, the IPO can offer you suggestions. In the meantime please read the faculty handbook and fill out the proposal form.  

Hosting Visiting Scholars
Worcester State University seeks to enhance the international dimensions of its research and teaching activities through the presence of visiting scholars on campus. The IPO aims to promote greater involvement of visiting scholars in research, teaching and service on the campus and in the community, ensure clarity as to the resources and benefits provided by the institution to the visiting scholar, and to obtain compliance with all federal regulations related to international visiting scholars.
