Workstation Administrative Rights

The purpose of this policy is to define how users may be granted administrative rights to their primary personal computer and to outline additional responsibilities of users with administrative rights.

It is policy that only users who request administrative rights and sign the release form will receive them.  Further, users with administrative rights must adhere to the responsibilities detailed below. Note: For repairs and maintenance, appropriate IT staff will have access to an administrator account on WSC owned computers (including laptops).  The access list will be reviewed and the account information may be periodically updated as needed.

  • With the exception of data stored in the /My Documents/ directory associated with a user’s specific profile, the user will be completely responsible for all data stored on any local hard drive or removable media.
  • The user will be responsible for the installation of any non-supported software.
  • The user will be responsible for the legal licensing of all installed software.
  • The user will be responsible for any personalization in personal computer configuration.
  • The user will be responsible for ensuring that the configuration of his/her personal computer meets all college technology standards and guidelines.
  • Information Technologies will guarantee only that the user’s personal computer will be restored to its original delivered condition in the event of system or hardware problems.
