What is Chandler's Challenge?
Chandler's Challenge is Worcester State’s annual days of giving. In this exciting two-day bracketed-style event, official student clubs, academic departments and centers, and athletic teams will go head-to-head to see who can get the most donors to support their cause. Winning teams will be awarded cash prizes.
What are the dates?
Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10.
What is a “Donor Score”?
To advance to the next round in the Chandler's Challenge brackets, each team must get a higher Donor Score than their competitors. A Donor Score is the number of donors a team has divided by the number of people on the team times 100.
Donor Score = ( # of Donors ÷ Team Size ) × 100
Why are you using a Donor Score?
We use a Donor Score to allow our smaller sized teams to compete evenly with our larger sized teams.
Do the Donor Scores reset at the beginning of each round?
No, the Donor Scores do not reset at the beginning of each round. Each team builds upon their Donor Score as they advance through the standings.
If my team is knocked out in an early round, can we still fundraise?
YES! Even if your team is no longer competing in the brackets, you can still raise money until midnight on Tuesday, 3/10. You can also participate in the Power Hours to win some extra prize money for your team.
What are Power Hours?
Power Hours are special hours on 3/9 and 3/10 when teams, no matter where they are in the standings, will compete within their bracket to see who can get the highest Donor Score in 60 minutes. Even teams that have been knocked out of the competition can compete, and win, the Power Hours.
When are the Power Hours?
The Power Hours are 1–2 p.m., and 7–8 p.m. on Monday, 3/9 and Tuesday, 3/10.
Can a team win more than one Power Hour?
Yes, a team can win more than one Power Hour if they get the highest Donor Score within their bracket during each of the assigned hours.
What are the prizes for winning the competition and Power Hours?
Generous donors have pledged matching funds to the winning teams of each of the three brackets and Power Hours. One first place winner in each bracket will receive $1,000. One second place winner in each bracket will receive $500. Two third place winners in each bracket will win $250. Each Power Hour winner will receive $250. The team from each bracket that has the most Worcester State alumni donors will win an additional $500.
When will the winners be announced?
Winners will be announced at the Chandler's Challenge Days of Giving Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, 3/11. Winners will be published, along with event highlights, in the March Alumni e-newsletter and on the Worcester State University website on 3/31.
How often will the brackets be updated?
The brackets will be updated hourly between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. with each teams’ Donor Score. At midnight and noon teams with the highest Donor Score will advance to the next round.
What if I want to donate to a scholarship or fund that isn’t listed as a team?
If your favorite scholarship or fund isn’t listed, you can still get in on the fun of Chandler's Challenge! Gifts can be made to the Worcester State Fund or your favorite scholarship at
alumni.worcester.edu/ChandlersChallenge2020.
Can I give by check or cash?
Yes! Make checks payable to “Worcester State Foundation”. Write in the memo field “Chandler's Challenge” and the team or fund you’d like to support. Cash donations can be made in person at the University Advancement Office located on campus in room 231 of the Administration Building between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday – Friday. How do I get a gift receipt for tax purposes?
Gifts made online, via the team giving forms, will receive an email acknowledgement that includes the tax information. Cash, check, and gifts made online via the alumni website will receive a gift acknowledgement letter with the tax information by mail.
Is there a snow date?
No. If inclement weather closes the university on Tuesday or Wednesday, Chandler's Challenge Days of Giving will still go as planned as an online fundraising tournament. There will not be information and donation tables in the Student Center.
I still have questions.
