  • Empty Bowls Fundraiser

    November 17 & 18, 2020

The Empty Bowls Fundraiser is a two-day campaign to raise awareness of food insecurity. The annual fundraiser benefits Thea’s Pantry on the Worcester State University campus as well as the Chandler Magnet Food Pantry. Join us as we recognize National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week by making a donation to the Empty Bowls Fundraiser to support our students. We ask that you consider donating your lunch money on both days of the event.

Donate Now: Help Reduce Food Insecurity

Traditionally, this event takes place in-person; it's a festive and lively event in which the entire campus community participates. There are warm soups and fresh bread, opportunities to win prizes donated from many area restaurants and shops, as well as a decadent dessert table that our own Worcester State students contribute to making.

Due to the pandemic, our community is struggling, some are not able to work, many are not able to meet their basic needs. If you are able to donate please consider assisting the community and helping our students access food.

Access to food is a basic human right, yet 40% of college students in the US are food insecure. In the state of Massachusetts, 33% of four-year college students report that they are food insecure. At Worcester State 1 in 3 students are hungry, and we don't yet know what these numbers look like during the COVID era.. Many students have to live with the fear of not knowing when their next meal will be or whether they will have enough money to pay for food. College hunger also exacerbates unequal access to education - food insecure students lack access to the nutrients they need to stay focused and healthy. A donation to the Empty Bowls Fundraiser will directly impact our students who need access to healthy food.
