    What's underneath? What kind of character, or sheer will, must a person have to overcome the twin obstacles of race and gender and still find happiness? In Lynn Nottage's Intimate Apparel, we see a black woman in 1905 New York City struggling to make ends meet, to find love, to find dignity while working in the intimate apparel industry sewing corsets for the wealthy and for prostitutes. Intimate Apparel is a heartbreaking story about overcoming monumental obstacles.
