Associate Professor

My research interests are broadly in the field of green chemistry and more specifically in the area of greener solvents for processes and environmental remediation. I work with a class of non-volatile and non-flammable solvents termed ionic liquids. I am interested in the role of water in modifying solvent properties and properties of mixtures as well. As part of my sabbatical I investigated the life cycle of these solvents as applied to cellulose processing. Much of my research is designed to facilitate undergraduate participation.
