    AY2019-2020 Opportunities for Funding for Faculty Research


  • Faculty Scholarship/Creative Activity Grant

    Description

    Supports any stage of work on research or creative activity. Can include travel, equipment, materials, and student/non-student employees

    Type of Award and Eligibility

    Support for faculty research or creative activity.

    Funding Level

    Pre-tenure: Preference given to faculty members who are requesting no more than $6,000 over any three-year period.

    Tenured: Preference given to faculty members who are requesting no more than $4,000 over any three-year period

    Group: Preference given to groups requesting no more than $10,000 in conjunction with preferred individual limits.

    Timeline

    Applications open: mid fall

    Applications due: early March

    Award for activities for next fiscal year (7/1-6/30)*

    Teaching & Learning Innovation Grant

    Description

    Supports complete project that will develop or implement an innovation in teaching and learning at Worcester State

    Support for faculty projects related to teaching and learning.

    Provost’s Travel Fund

    Description

    Supports travel to present research or creative work at a professional conference or invited venue. Presentation must be as full member of panel or individual session/talk.

    Type of Award and Eligibility

    Travel support for faculty research or creative work presentation

    Funding Level

    A faculty member is eligible for up to one award per year for up to $1,000

    Timeline

    6 cycles: travel in 7/1-8/31, 9/1-10/31, 11/1-12/31, 1/1-2/28(29), 3/1-4/30, 5/1-6/30

    Applications accepted on rolling basis for all cycles

    Last deadline for applications: 6/15, 8/15, 10/15, 12/15, 2/15, and 4/15, respectively

    Worcester State and the Worcester Art Museum Partnership Project Planning Grants

    Description

    Provides support for faculty projects that integrate elements of the Worcester Art Museum collection into courses across the curriculum at Worcester State. Faculty preparation time as well as transportation and other activity costs eligible.

    Type of Award and Eligibility

    Support for integration of WAM collection into Worcester State courses

    Funding Level

    Faculty member: up to $500 for stipend plus additional funding for activity

    Timeline

    Applications open: early February

    Applications due: last March

    Planning must be done during May and June

    Activity must take place during the next academic year

    Description

    Supports 1-2 students working on research project over summer under supervision of a Worcester State faculty member

    Type of Award and Eligibility

    Support for student research. Application submitted by faculty member.

    Funding Level

    1-2 student researchers per award: up to $3,000 each

    Faculty supervisor: up to $1,500

    Timeline

    Applications open: mid fall

    Applications due: early March

    Award for activities the week after the undergraduate commencement to the last full week of August

    Graduate Student Research Grant

    Description

    Supports travel costs and/or research costs, excluding faculty and student stipends

    Support for graduate student research or creative activity.

    3 cycles for travel or projects initiated within a cycle: 9/1-12/31, 1/1-4/30, 5/1-8/31

    This year’s Celebration of Scholarship and Creativity will take place on Wednesday April 29, 2020, with talks in the morning and posters in the afternoon from 3:00-5:00.     Massachusetts Statewide Undergraduate Research Conference

    Massachusetts Statewide Undergraduate Research Conference, UMass Amherst, Friday, April 24, 2020. Conference registration for students are open and the abstract submission deadline is Friday, February 14, 2020. Note that this conference is for undergraduate students. Worcester State provides transportation to and from UMass Amherst, as well as a lunch voucher, to all students presenting. This is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their best work and build both their confidence and their resumes.
