    Sam O’Connell is an Professor in Theatre and Interdisciplinary Arts in the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Worcester State College. Sam earned his Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama Program at Northwestern University. He serves as the dramaturge for the theatre concentration in the Visual and Performing Arts Department and teaches courses in the interdisciplinary core for the major. Some of his courses include Intro to Theatre, Critical Thinking in the Arts, History of Theatre, and Script Analysis. As a scholar, his research interests focus on the intersections of media technology and live performance in popular culture. He has presented and published research on topics ranging from benefit concerts after 9/11, The Met: Live in HD, and performance personae in popular music. He research interests have also informed his teaching in such special topics classes as “Rock Music and Theatre” and “Liveness: Media Technology and Performance Theory.”
