The following will be considered prior to a clinician&#8217;s ability to provide the requested documentation:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Longevity of therapeutic relationship<\/li>\n<li>Consistency of student&#8217;s attendance<\/li>\n<li>Documentation due date*<\/li>\n<li>Signed release of information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"WdYUQQ text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">*Students are encouraged to speak to their counselor well in advance of the documentation due date as extra time may be needed during high clinical demand. Additional sessions may be needed to facilitate the information requested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"WdYUQQ text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The decision to grant any requested or recommended accommodation lies with the relevant department or entity, and not the Counseling Services staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Requests for Class Absence Documentation:<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Counseling Services cannot excuse an absence\/s from class for medical illness or mental health concerns. However, if you are seeking documentation regarding your receipt of services in our office, documentation can be provided. Students in need of academic accommodations related to medical or mental health concerns should register with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worcester.edu\/campus-life\/student-services\/student-accessibility-services\/\">Student Accessibility Services.<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Requests for Emotional Support Animal Documentation:<\/strong><br \/>\nDiagnosis of a psychological disability resulting in a prescription for an emotional support animal (ESA) is a complex process that requires several sessions in order to understand the presence, intensity, and duration of various symptoms, degree of impairment in several areas of life functioning, and an evaluation of how an emotional support animal (ESA) would help mitigate symptoms and improve functioning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Counseling staff will often work with students to develop coping skills to mitigate symptoms prior to prescribing an ESA.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> For more information or questions regarding obtaining appropriate support documentation related to an ESA accommodation, please refer to the University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worcester.edu\/campus-life\/student-services\/student-accessibility-services\/\">Student Accessibility Services<\/a> ESA Policy.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students may seek out clinical documentation to aid accommodation requests or support clinical needs.
