Page &amp; Worcester State<\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Scott Page, a native of Winchendon, MA., is the captain of the Men\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsulancers.com\/sports\/mtrack-ind\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indoor<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsulancers.com\/sports\/mtrack-ind\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Outdoor<\/a> Track teams.\u00a0 He is a former treasurer and project manager for the student organization\u00a0Enactus.\u00a0 If that wasn\u2019t enough, Scott also works part-time at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worcester.edu\/campus-life\/health-wellness\/wellness-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wellness Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We asked Scott how he does it all.\u00a0 He said he said he has been able to grow as a leader with the support of his Worcester State family.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Personal Growth through his Student Athlete Experience<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Scott strongly feels that his experience on the track team has contributed immensely to his personal growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the community of all the athletes,\u201d Scott said. \u201cEveryone meets up and talks to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott explained that he is extremely grateful for the resources provided to student-athletes, which ensure that they are able to perform well both in the classroom and in their respective sports.\u00a0 These resources include Study Hall and assistance with class scheduling, among many other support services.<\/p>\n<p>Scott also appreciates the opportunity to engage with his teammates.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_496\" style=\"width: 1126px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-496\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-496\" src=\"https:\/\/leadershipwsu.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/11\/scott-teammates-e1543613740967.jpg\" alt=\"Scott - Teammates\" width=\"1116\" height=\"862\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scott earned the top spot as\u00a0 MASCAC (Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference) champion twice during his time at WSU.\u00a0 He is pictured here with his teammates Justin Lewis (left) and Marcus Vieira (right).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI love competing and practicing with my team.\u00a0 I love being a team player,\u201d\u00a0 Scott said.\u00a0 \u201cWhen I wake up, I\u2019m excited to go out there and have fun with my teammates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking with my teammates has definitely made me a better leader,\u201d Scott said.\u00a0 \u201cI spend a lot of time with the guys I compete with on and off the track, just hanging out.\u00a0 We are very family-orientated.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve had such a positive impact on my last four years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s leadership has not gone unnoticed in the Athletics department.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>Scott is a great leader, on and off the track, not only for his teammates but the entire athletic department,\u201d said Kelly Downs, Coordinator of Student-Athlete Support Services and Head Women\u2019s Lacrosse Coach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScott is actively involved in the Athlete Mentor Program and Student Athlete Advisory committee where he leads by example,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cHe takes his academics seriously, and he does whatever he can on the track to be the best athlete he can.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_494\" style=\"width: 288px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-494\" class=\" wp-image-494 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/leadershipwsu.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/11\/scott-with-tyler-e1543613186287.jpg\" alt=\"Scott with Tyler\" width=\"278\" height=\"506\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-494\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scott credits his friend Tyler Nims (left, pictured here with Scott) for getting him involved in Enactus.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Stepping Outside of his Comfort Zone<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition to his responsibilities on the field,\u00a0Scott became involved with the community service-based student organization, <a href=\"https:\/\/securelb.imodules.com\/s\/140\/dg21\/interior.aspx?sid=140&amp;gid=1&amp;pgid=4894&amp;cid=7505\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enactus<\/a>.\u00a0 He feels that Enactus created for him a second family outside of Athletics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy best friend Tyler Nims encouraged me to join Enactus my freshman year, and I immediately fell in love with the people I met and the things that they were doing.\u00a0 It was very community service-based.\u00a0 The Enactus members were my family outside of Athletics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott decided in his first year at Worcester State that he would run for an elected Executive Board position with Enactus.\u00a0 He was encouraged to do so by his peers.\u00a0 However, he shared that he was definitely hesitant at first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was anxious to run for E-Board.\u00a0 It was my first year in college,\u201d Scott said.\u00a0 \u201cBut I wanted to get more involved, and so I ran for treasurer of Enactus. And I ended up gaining so much from holding this leadership position.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Developing a Support Network at WSU<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Scott explained that he experienced many challenges that come with being a student-athlete, including finding time for things outside of athletics.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_493\" style=\"width: 228px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-493\" class=\" wp-image-493 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/leadershipwsu.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/11\/scott-solo-e1543611381667.png\" alt=\"Scott - Solo\" width=\"218\" height=\"313\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-493\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scott at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m taking five classes, and I have meets, practice, lifting, and sometimes a second practice that same day,\u201d Scott said. \u00a0\u201cThen carving out time for\u00a0hanging out with friends who are not athletes.\u00a0 And then, of course, finding time for myself and being able to relax a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Scott was able to overcome his challenges by building a strong community of support here at WSU, which includes his teammates and his friends on campus.<\/p>\n<p>His support network also includes faculty and staff, many of whom he acknowledges for playing a large role in helping Scott manage the demands of a student-athlete.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Mahoney [Joan &#8220;Jay&#8221; Mahoney, Professor, Business Administration and Economics, and Advisor for Enactus]\u00a0<b><\/b>has helped me so much, with classes and everything,\u201d Scott said. \u201cShe\u2019s been there for me, and I know she\u2019s also been there for countless other people. Having her help me figure out my degree plan, and having her as a professor in my business classes was great too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"il\">&#8220;Scott<\/span>\u00a0is a true scholar and gentleman,&#8221; Dr. Mahoney said.\u00a0 &#8220;He is a caring, people-centered servant leader always willing to put others before himself.\u00a0 He did a fabulous job as Treasurer for Enactus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Scott also wanted to acknowledge Dr. Mary Clay [Assistant Professor, Business Administration and Economics] with whom he took his first accounting class.\u00a0 \u201cShe\u2019s the reason I chose accounting,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd of course my coaches,\u201d Scott said. \u201cThey have helped me a lot through everything. They have had such a big impact on my time here at WSU. We\u2019ve spent so much time together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Taking Care of Business<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite all of his accomplishments, Scott understands that he is a student first.\u00a0 He takes his academics very seriously.\u00a0 Scott will graduate an Honors student with a Business Administration degree (concentration in Accounting and Finance; minor in Economics).
