Intensive ESL Program Classes

When you enroll in our Intensive ESL courses, you will become proficient in learning to read, write, and speak English. The level at which you begin your studies will depend on your placement tests. You will have the ability to focus on specific aspects of the English language and be given opportunities to speak, write, and read English with confidence. If you are interested in taking the TOEFL exam to attend a college or university in the United States, we offer a iBT TOEFL preparation class. Our instructors will cover subject areas known to be challenging for those learning English as well as cover general testing strategies.
  • This class is perfect for students who want to study and practice reading and writing to reach entry-level college proficiency. Beginning students start with words and sentence structure. Advanced students learn to understand college-level texts, novels, and news articles, and are taught to write essays and research papers. Reading and Writing makes up 2 days of the full-time Intensive Program.

  • Students in this class practice giving speeches and oral presentations in order to develop English fluency, build vocabulary, and reduce their accent when speaking English. Students have many opportunities to practice formal and informal speaking. Beginning students receive extra help with one-on-one instruction from graduate students enrolled in the Worcester State University Communications Sciences and Disorders program. Advanced students have opportunities to visit university-credit classes with their instructors and practice listening and note-taking skills.

  • Students spend time in this class learning and practicing English grammar so that they gain confidence in their ability to speak and write English. Students receive many opportunities to practice grammar through reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

  • Students who place in the beginning and low-intermediate levels take classes integrating all of the English-language skills (reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking). Students apply these skills by completing a semester-long project as well as reading and discussing current and interesting topics, which help students improve their language fluency and confidence.

  • Students in the upper-intermediate and advanced levels can take this class to prepare for the iBT TOEFL exam. Testing strategies are discussed as well as the areas known to be the most difficult for test-takers.
