In the Computer Science Department at Worcester State University, we provide you with a solid foundation in the principles, theories, and applications of computer science. We also help you develop strong analytical, problem solving, and team-building skills that prepare you to succeed in a wide range of tech careers. Through our innovative curriculum, you’ll immerse yourself in the latest trends and technologies in computer science and learn how to adapt and make ethical decisions as the field evolves.
In capstone courses, you’ll apply your knowledge to real-world problems—finding, implementing, and evaluating hardware and software solutions. If you are looking to specialize in an area of interest, we offer a choice of concentrations in “big data” analytics and software development. You also may choose an optional concentration in bioinfomatics. We offer an interdisciplinary minor in information technology, which complements majors in business, biotechnology, communication, criminal justice, and mathematics. We also collaborate with the Communication Department to offer an interdisciplinary minor in web development. You’ll have access to numerous hands-on learning opportunities through our department’s Math/Computer Science Club, Upsilon Pi Epsilon chapter, and student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery.
If you are an adult learner with computer-science-related work experience, you can start working toward a degree in computer science through our Next Step Program. Next Step gives you the opportunity to gain course credits for completing a portfolio of prior learning.
