Why should students get involved with your organization?
Students should get involved with the Fiber Arts Circle if they are looking to join a tight-knit community (pun intended) that can support their creative journey into the fiber arts – whether they have experience or not. Our meetings provide a dedicated space to work on your projects with other fiber artists. These meetings are very low-pressure and drop-in, so feel free to just stop by if you want to access our supplies or have a question about your project.

What types of events and/or programs do you do throughout the year?
Throughout the year we host several events where we teach the basics of certain fiber arts. This year we are doing teaching events for knitting, crochet, needle-felting, and cross-stitch! We are also currently involved in a winter clothing drive with WooServe.

What has been one of the biggest successes of this organization?
One of the biggest successes so far has been the supply drive that we did. We had asked faculty and staff to donate any fiber arts materials (yarn, fabric, knitting needles, etc.) that they had lying around, and boy did they deliver! We were able to fill our club storage closet with these donations that now the entire club has access to. This will allow our club members to have access to many different tools and yarns that they can use for their projects. Some of the most exciting things donated were a sewing kit, wool yarn, and some cording for macrame projects! We are very grateful for all the donations that we received and are amazed at the generosity of the Worcester State community.

What do you think your organization brings to the students at Worcester State?
College can be very stressful and even overwhelming at times, it’s important to have a stress relief activity and to foster your creativity. Getting involved with fiber arts is a great way to fulfill both of these activities, and you get a cool one-of-a-kind handmade item out of it!
