Adam Saltsman is broadly interested in urban inclusion and exclusion, and explores this topic via three interconnected areas. First, he looks at refugee displacement in urban areas and border towns, exploring how people on the move or in a state of enforced immobility struggle for survival, stability, and a sense of belonging in what are often unwelcoming places. Second, Dr. Saltsman teaches and researches hunger, especially on college campuses where he organizes student advocacy on this topic. And third, Dr. Saltsman explores the interrelation between change in urban spaces, immigration, and the global economy, with a particular focus on how urban residents perceive, produce, and contest ideas of equity, inclusion, and diversity. Much of Dr. Saltsman’s research focuses on cities and border towns in Southeast Asia, and he does research and teaches on US urban contexts as well.
