Bio

Kristine Goldynia, SLPD, CCC-SLP, is an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist with over 25 years of experience working with individuals across the lifespan. She earned her undergraduate degree from Wayne State University, her graduate degree from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, and her clinical doctorate from Northwestern University, where her culminating project was a scoping review (unpublished) examining dysphagia outcomes in relation to caregiver training.

Dr. Goldynia specializes in dysphagia as it presents in adults with medically complex conditions. Her research focuses on promoting equitable care for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and dysphagia. Currently, she is dedicated to advancing the understanding of how caregiver training programs impact dysphagia outcomes in community-based settings.

Nature and causes of organic and functional speech/language and hearing problems, general awareness of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.

CD 925 Motor Speech Disorders (Graduate)

Study of the neurological basis, etiology, characteristics, prevention, evaluation, and intervention of motor speech disorders in children and adults.

CD 987 Special Topics in Communication Sciences And Disorders (Graduate)

This course introduces students to medical case management for adults with complex medical needs living in community-based settings, such as group homes. Students will explore various community-based living options and, using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) framework, will gain an understanding of communication and swallowing needs within this unique population. Emphasis will be placed on working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to address these needs effectively.

Dysphagia Specialty Clinic

This off campus clinic allows students the opportunity gain clinical experience through the identification, treatment and management of swallowing challenges as they present in adults with complex medical needs in community based settings. Students work collaboratively with nursing, direct care staff, OT/PT and family members to support the needs of the individuals who participate in the clinic.
