Executive Certificate in Accounting


IN THIS SECTION

    Advance your career with an accounting certificate.

    In Worcester State’s Executive Certificate in Accounting program, you will gain knowledge of a range of accounting and financial principles and concepts, including tax preparation and auditing. You will become familiar with the various federal, state, and private agencies that have an impact or oversight authority related to accounting, auditing, and taxation. You will also be prepared to pass a professional accounting exam.

    In addition, the credits you earn in this program can be applied to the Master of Science in Management at Worcester State.

    Prerequisites for the executive certificate in Accounting

    • Complete the following undergraduate accounting courses: Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, and Auditing.

    • Have three or more years of experience in an accounting-related job role. Application decision will be made by the graduate coordinator in consultation with a department graduate advisory board based on a letter of recommendation and the role description.

    • If the applicant has not taken an accounting class in their undergraduate program, they must complete the undergraduate prerequisites outlined in Option 1. In addition, they will be required to complete graduate-level BA-911 Accounting for Managerial Decision-Making.

    AC-910 Taxation of Individuals & Proprietors

    This course provides a detailed analysis of federal laws, regulations, and other authorities affecting the taxation of individuals and proprietors. The course is structured around tax law research with some consideration to forms and computerized tax packages.
    3 credits

    AC-911 Taxation of Corporations and Shareholders

    This course focuses on analyzing federal and state laws affecting corporations and shareholders, including laws governing corporate formation, liquidating and non-liquidating distributions, reorganizations, taxes on corporation accumulations, tax planning for compliance, and minimization.
    3 credits

    AC-912 Advanced Accounting Theory

    This course covers advanced topics in reporting for creditors, investors, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders and the conceptual development and application of reporting alternatives. Specific emphasis is placed on the application of accounting theory to current topics in financial reporting.
    3 credits

    AC-913 Advanced Auditing Theory and Practice

    The course provides students with an in-depth understanding of auditing standards, auditing electronic systems, auditor’s reports, statistical samples in auditing, and SEC regulations. Case studies are used to allow students to apply their knowledge in actual business situations.
