Summer Research Fellowships

The summer fellowships will support STEM Faculty and undergraduate student research teams from the Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Earth Environment, and Physics Departments to participate in research for 10 weeks during the summer.

This is a unique opportunity for students to work closely with faculty during the summer and gain a valuable experience in their major of choice.

The Faculty Member will receive a $3000 award stipend and the student fellowship recipients will receive a up to $3000 (in hourly wages). In addition there may be funds available to support the proposed research (supplies, equipment or other activities).

Applications to participate in this program are due by 4 pm on Monday March 9th via email at stem@worcester.edu or in hard copy to the Deans Office (ST101). The call for Applications, and the Application Instructions can be found below.

Eligibility

Faculty
- A single full time faculty member in one of the five Aisiku STEM Center Departments
  - Biology
  - Chemistry
  - Earth, Environment, and Physics
  - Computer Science
  - Mathematics
Students
- WSU undergraduate majoring in one of the five STEM Center Departments
  - Biology
  - Chemistry
  - Earth, Environment, and Physics
  - Computer Science
  - Mathematics
- Student must be enrolled as a full-time matriculated student during the upcoming Fall semester.

Expectations

10-week commitment to a research project during the summer
Final written report and public presentation of research (sent to Linda Larrivee and Daron Barnard)
Thank you letter to Dr. Aisiku (sent to Linda Larrivee and Daron Barnard)

Criteria for selection

Quality of the research plan
Support and recommendation of a faculty mentor
Quality/clarity of personal statement including understanding of the research to be conducted and the impact on future plans
Likelihood of success (based on your academic record, personal statement, other relevant academic and/or work experiences and recommendation)
