In the Business Administration and Economics Department at Worcester State University, you will develop a strong foundation in the economic and business theories and practices that you need to succeed in today’s competitive work environment. Our faculty of experts in business administration and economics will equip you with the skills to manage the human, financial, marketing, and technological resources of organizations. They also will impart a sophisticated understanding of current economic thought and the role played by economic institutions in society.
Beyond the classroom, you can take advantage of numerous experiential learning opportunities that will enable you to hone skills while learning to become a socially responsible leader. In our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, you can help local citizens complete their taxes. Through the Enactus student organization, you’ll have the opportunity to teach financial literacy skills to local adult English-language learners. Our department hosts a chapter of Sigma Beta Delta, the international honor society in business, management, and administration, for outstanding business majors, as well as a chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international honor society in economics for qualifying students. If you are looking to specialize in an area of interest, we offer concentrations in accounting, entrepreneurial studies and small business management, finance, international business, management, and marketing. If you achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher by your senior year, you will have the opportunity to earn within five years both a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in management through WSU’s accelerated "4+1" program.
If you’re interested in the processes and theories of an economy, our department also offers an economics major. You’ll gain an understanding of our ever-changing economic climate and the ability to analyze outcomes of economic policies and trends. If you need a flexible course schedule, you can take advantage of our evening and online courses. In fact, you can complete our business administration major entirely at night, if that best suits your lifestyle. Whichever program of study you choose, we’ll tailor your education to fit your career interests and goals. If you are interested in pursuing a master’s degree in management or health-care administration while working full- or part-time, we also offer convenient, high quality graduate programs.
MinorsOur department also offers minors in business administration and economics. If you are majoring in communication, computer science, criminal justice, psychology, English, or Spanish, you can enhance your career trajectory with a minor in business administration. And while an economics minor is a natural match for our business administration major, it also is a strong complement to other WSU majors like mathematics, computer science, sociology, urban studies, and psychology.
WSU is a “noteworthy runner-up” in the College for Business category of Worcester Business Journal’s 2nd annual "Best of Business" awards contest. Thank you to all WSU business administration and economics alumni, students, and other boosters for supporting us in the WBJ readers poll. Check out this year’s winners.
