I joined the Worcester Civic Leaders Program to strengthen my leadership skills and make a meaningful impact in the Worcester community. I love connecting with people, serving others, and learning from leaders who are committed to creating positive change. I’m excited to grow through collaboration, civic engagement, and hands-on community service.

My vision is to help create healthier, more connected communities by leading with compassion, integrity, and service. I aspire to use my education in public health and my leadership experiences to advocate for equitable access to healthcare, empower underserved populations, and inspire others to become engaged community leaders.

I am a senior at Worcester State University, majoring in Public Health with a minor in Psychology. Originally from Kenya, I moved to the United States at a young age, an experience that has shaped my appreciation for diverse communities and fueled my passion for service, leadership, and advocacy. I currently work as a Registration Representative in the Emergency Department at UMass Memorial Health, where I have gained valuable experience interacting with patients from all walks of life and developed a deeper understanding of the importance of accessible, compassionate healthcare. On campus, I have served as President of the Black Student Union, where I led initiatives that foster community, celebrate culture, and create opportunities for student engagement. I am also a member of the Senior Class Committee and serve as a Presidential Student Ambassador, representing Worcester State University at campus events and helping strengthen connections between students, alumni, and university leadership. One of the most impactful experiences in my WSU journey was participating in a leadership trip to Washington, D.C., where I met with elected officials and advocated for issues affecting college students, including access to affordable housing, food security, and educational opportunities. That experience strengthened my confidence in civic engagement and reinforced my belief that meaningful change begins with informed leadership and collaboration. Beyond campus, I remain actively involved in my church as a youth leader, praise and worship leader, and dance choreographer, opportunities that have strengthened my ability to mentor others and lead with compassion. Through every role I take on, I strive to make a positive impact by bringing people together, serving my community, and advocating for equitable opportunities. As a participant in the Worcester Civic Leaders Program, I look forward to continuing to grow as a leader, learning from community partners, and developing the skills necessary to create lasting change both locally and beyond.

I am honored to be placed with the Guild of St. Agnes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and families through high-quality early childhood education, childcare, family services, and community programs. I am drawn to this organization because I believe that investing in children and strengthening families creates healthier, more resilient communities. As a Public Health major, I recognize that a child’s health and well-being are influenced by many factors beyond healthcare, including access to quality education, stable support systems, and safe environments. I look forward to learning more about the organization’s work, contributing to its mission, and gaining a deeper understanding of how nonprofit organizations create lasting, positive change within the Worcester community.
