In joining the civic leaders program, I saw a way in which I can strengthen my leadership skills and build connections with the local non-profit organizations. This program has given me a way to connect with community leaders to learn from them and provide my own input for future programs in their organization. This program allows me to grow both professionally and personally by giving me the opportunity to take on a leadership position under the guidance of the organization leadership and Worcester State faculty. I am beyond excited about the future of this program holds for me.
My vision is to help create a world where people have the chance to access quality support services that help them in their wellbeing, whether that is healthcare or social services. I want everyone to have an equitable opportunity to succeed and have a happy life. I aspire that my path towards becoming a physician and my work on the field will help us move closer to these goals.
I am a junior at Worcester State University, majoring in biology on a pre-med track. Although I was born in the US I spent the first 14 years of my life living in Ecuador, I moved to the US when I turned 15 this experience has given me the prospective of what it is like to be a first generation American. Inside Worcester State I am the president of Tri Beta a biology honor society, one of the founders of the Medical Ethics and Humanities, an RA, student researcher, and part of the Worcester Civic Leaders program. Outside of school I am an Emergency Medicine Technician and a seasonal volunteer for Catholic charities. All of these experiences have given me a unique approach to life and a deep appreciation for the central Massachusetts area and its people. I aspire to one day become a physician.
