Apply Now – Applications due March 23, 2026

Elements

  • Fellows are nominated by their president or chancellor based on their potential for public leadership and their work with communities. Throughout the fellowship year, Campus Compact provides students with opportunities to nurture their assets and help them develop strategies for social change—creating a network of connected and engaged student leaders who can support one another in making positive change.
  • Throughout the fellowship year, Campus Compact provides Newman Civic Fellows with opportunities for learning and networking virtually and in person. Each opportunity is designed to help students learn to collaborate effectively across disciplines and to apply their skills to directly create positive change in their communities.

    - Regular virtual events focused on skill development and professional learning

    - An annual in-person Convening of Fellows

    - One-on-one leadership development with a local mentor of their choice

    - Connection to a nationwide network of engaged student leaders, both during and after the fellowship year

    - Apply to receive a mini-grant of up to $1,500 for a social impact project

    - Public national recognition

    - Special scholarship and career opportunities

    - Opportunities to present or publish work through Campus Compact
  • Student nominees must:

    - Be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at your institution (with preference for undergraduate students).

    - Have at least one year of their education remaining (either at their current institution or at a different one) at the date of nomination so that they are enrolled as a student for the full duration of their fellowship (September '26 to May '27).

    - Commit to providing a short reflection piece to Campus Compact during their fellowship year.

    - Commit to being present and fully engage in offered fellowship activities.

Alex Ortiz Colon (2025-2026)

"Alex is a valuable member of the Worcester State community, and his efforts to revitalize our Political Science club as an active hub of student engagement with politics, current events and civic engagement is a key example of his enthusiasm for the kind of work that the Newman Civic Fellowship supports. Alex is also a mentor for Upward Bound, where he provides high school students with support to increase their critical thinking skills, time management and problem solving. As a rising Junior, we expect Alex to leverage the Newman Civic Fellowship year to develop an exciting plan of action for his senior year." President Barry Maloney
