Whether you are looking to gain new skills, enhance your professional training, or simply enrich your life through learning, the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education at Worcester State University offers convenient, affordable programs tailored to your needs. Offerings include undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, for-credit, and noncredit certificate programs and workshops. Courses typically are taught in the evening throughout the regular academic year, and some are available during the summer sessions.

Certificate Programs

Are you seeking a career change? Or is it time for a skills upgrade in your current field? A certificate from Worcester State can help you accomplish either objective. For-credit certificates are a good option for career-changers and often can be applied toward your undergraduate degree at a later date. Noncredit certificates are best for filling gaps in your resume and staying up-to-date with current best practices.

For-Credit Certificates

  • Worcester State now offers a one-year Addictions Counseling Certificate, which you can complete while working full-time. The program allows you to earn a formal credential in a growing field with strong employment potential, together with 24 transferable credits towards an undergraduate degree.

This certificate focuses on the basic competencies associated with helping people in recovery from substance abuse disorders and is available for matriculated and non-matriculated students alike. The program provides students with content knowledge in addictions counseling that map to core competencies outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS). Worcester State University has been recognized by the BSAS as an approved Addictions Education Provider.

    Admissions Requirements

    • Online application and $30 application fee
    • Student must have a high school diploma or GED
    • Evidence of successful completion of PS-101 or its equivalent

    APPLY: ADDICTIONS COUNSELING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Non-matriculated students should contact Elena Arranz at earranz@worcester.edu for more information about the Addictions Counseling Certificate.

  • Our Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental, and Pre-Veterinary certificates can provide you with training in the basic science curriculum, which you’ll need to continue your academic studies at a medical, dental, or veterinary school.

Please note that the Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental, and Pre-Veterinary Program requires a bachelor’s degree. You also can use this program to repeat the basic science curriculum and upgrade your GPA for graduate school applications.

If you are interested in an advanced science curriculum, we encourage you to consider one of our full undergraduate degree programs in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science.
