President's Office

  • President's Message

Welcome to Worcester State University. It is a privilege to lead such an outstanding institution of higher learning. WSU is rated a "Best Value" college by the Princeton Review and is the only Massachusetts State University to earn a "Best in the Northeast" ranking for 14 consecutive years.

Our sound liberal arts and sciences curriculum is led by distinguished faculty who are experts in their fields and value teaching. Our low faculty-to-student ratio allows us to have full-time faculty teaching students in small classes and provides ample opportunities for undergraduate research.
Our programs—from biotechnology to health administration to business—prepare students for jobs in the regional economy, while all of our 60 undergraduate majors offer a liberal arts and general education foundation that helps students develop the critical thinking, teamwork skills, and effective communication that employers increasingly demand of entry-level employees. Advisory boards and data collection inform WSU’s curriculum, while internships, global experiences, and research projects offer both our graduate and undergraduate students experiences outside the classroom.
We prepare students for work and graduate school, as our outcomes data show. A survey of 2015 graduates showed that 91 percent were in graduate school, were employed, or were doing both, within six months of graduation.
We’ve been a part of the fabric of the greater Worcester community since our founding in 1874. Our collaborations with partners in education, health care, business, the nonprofit sector and cultural institutions have strengthened us and the communities we serve. Our strategic alliance with the Worcester Center for Crafts is an example of the kind of partnerships that exemplify our innovation.
The student is the most important person on our campus. We create opportunities and inspire students to achieve their goals. We recognize that in addition to our students’ academic pursuits, they lead full, rich lives and need our support. Yet, Worcester State University offers more than just a great learning experience. It broadens horizons and challenges assumptions.

So many of our students find that the public mission of Worcester State University seeps in, and changes them, in ways that help them make their way in the world, and in turn make that world a better place.
I encourage you to visit our campus and learn more about the opportunities available to you at Worcester State University.

    Barry M. Maloney
